3、ronic Systems 6.8 Cruise control systems Today, cruise control systems are operated by ECUs. Cruise control systems consist of several common components which include vehicle speed sensor, operator controls, control module, and throttle actuator. Vehicle Speed Sensor. It is usually mounted on the dr
4、ive shaft. It sends a speed signal to the control module. The speed sensor may also send a signal to the engine control computer. Operator Controls. The operator controls are used to set the desired speed. Control location varies between manufacturers, but is usually mounted on the turn signal lever
5、. The operator can set the speed, and can also make minor adjustments to speed as necessary. Another operator control is the brake pedal release switch, usually mounted on the brake pedal bracket. When the driver presses on the brake pedal, the switch sends a signal to the cruise control module to d

The control module processes the inputs from the controls and speed sensor and produces an output signal to the throttle actuator. Throttle Actuator. It opens and closes the
7、 vehicle throttle to maintain the operator set speed. Throttle actuators can be electric motors directly operated by the control module. In older vehicles, however, the throttle actuator is a vacuum diaphragm servo connected to a vacuum controller. Adaptive cruise control can automatically adjust th

10、a conventional system except when a signal from the headway sensor detects an obstruction, in which case the vehicle speed is decreased. If the optimum stopping distance cannot be achieved by just backing off the throttle, a warning is supplied to the driver. A more complex system can also take cont

It is important to note that adaptive cruise control is designed to relieve the burden on the driver, not take full control of the vehicle! Chapter 6 Automotive Electrical and Electronic Syst
